Fernando Alonso Best Driver of 2008

Fernando Alonso has been named the top F1 driver of the 2008 season by Italy’s La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Why Alonso? Because he was driving a Renault, which did not begin as the best machine, but in the last six Grand Prix no-one scored more points than him,In wise and close collaboration with his engineers, he gradually improved to a level of high competitiveness that allowed him not only to win two races, but to do better than everyone from September onwards: 43 points for him versus 33 for Massa and 28 for Hamilton. And all this with the handicap of Renault engine power. Had he driven a Ferrari, the title would certainly had been his”

Meanwhile, world F1 champion Lewis Hamilton was named second best Felipe Massa is third .

BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica was named next best, ahead of young Monza winner Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Nick Heidfeld, Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock. McLaren’s Heikki Kovalainen rounded out the top ten.

The 23 years-old Frenchman Franck Mailleux will join for Signature on the Le Mans Series in 2009 as well as the Le Mans 24 Hours, where he will share the team's LMP1 Oreca-Judd with his compatriot Pierre Ragues.

The young motorsport start claiming an emphatic victory at Brands Hatch in England. Now he takes the next step up in his career with a move to the 650-horsepower premier category of the Le Mans Series and his debut in the Le Mans 24 Hours: arguably the world's most famous race.

He tested Signature's LMP1 car for the first time earlier this month at the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France, and is now delighted to conclude a deal with the team.

"I am very happy to stay with the Signature team for this new challenge," said Mailleux. "We have enjoyed a successful collaboration for some time now and I am delighted to be able to continue it into the future."

The six-round Le Mans Series gets underway in Spain from April 4-5 and also takes in races at classic tracks such as Spa and Silverstone. The 77th Le Mans 24 Hours will take place from June 13-14. Prior to the start of the season, an official test weekend is scheduled at Paul Ricard in France from March 8-9.

Billionaire denies bought Honda Formula 1 Teams

A Reports that say the Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has or will buy a motorsport teams or spesifically Honda’s Formula One team have been denied.Team manager Ross Brawn has added his denial to reports that Honda Racing F1 is being bought by the billionaire Carlos Slim. He admitted that while “ there is a number of interested parties” are in talks with the Brackley-based team, any suggestion that Slim or his company Telmex are close to finalising a deal is not true.

“We would love it if it were true,” Brawn told the Daily Telegraph, “but it’s pure speculation from various members of the media. It’s just been one of those rumours which has developed a life of its own.”

Brawn is, however, remaining positive, insisting that “everything is in place” for a buyer to pick up and take the team to the 2009 season opener in Australia.

“We have enough funding to get us through to Melbourne and we still have a competitive package.”

Brawn said there has been so much interest from potential buyers that one of the tasks now is to sort “the serious from the not so serious.”

“We’re all hopeful that something will happen and we’re anxious to turn up the wick again in the new year.”

Financial Crisis Hit Formula 1( F1 )

They’re saying we haven’t seen a financial crisis like this since 1929. Good news is thin on the ground, and it’s hardly surprising that life is getting tough in motor racing circles, too – even for the biggest makes and marques.

Joe Saward’s analysis of the state of Grand Prix racing as we head into 2009, plus excellent columns from Gordon Kirby and Andrew Frankel on the pain being felt in US racing and the road car industry as a whole, deliver a definitive account of the challenges facing the sport and business. The magazine also offers a damning verdict on the leadership of the sport, which appears to have been left with little to fall back on as the crisis has developed.
